Kanaan Darts to Long-Sought Win at Indy

Franchitti and Helio Castroneves, who were each trying to win his fourth Indy 500, both came up short. Castroneves finished sixth and Franchitti was 23rd after his accident. The last charge to the finish was set up when Graham Rahal spun and crashed

The 97th Indy 500 was up for grabs with three laps to go when Ryan Hunter-Reay, who was leading, went three wide with Kanaan and Carlos Munoz into the first turn off a restart. Kanaan darted to the lead and then cruised to victory under a caution flag

AJ Allmendinger led 14 laps during his first start in the Greatest Spectacle in Racing but a loose seat belt ultimately eliminated him from contention.
