An Early Wimbledon Exit for Federer

LONDON (Reuters) – Roger Federer and "his ego" took an unbelievable battering at the hands of a little-known Ukrainian as the Swiss champion and holder of a record 17 grand slam titles was sent spinning out of Wimbledon on a day dubbed as 'Whacky 

Sergiy Stakhovsky capped a wild and weird day at Wimbledon by upsetting Roger Federer in four sets. The 6-foot-4 Stakhovsky played an almost perfect match, serving and volleying with relentless aggression, and also playing a solid backcourt game.

Roger Federer admitted at The Championships on Sunday that he is “ready for the challenge” of potentially needing to beat Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic if he is to retain his Wimbledon title.

Roger Federer, now one match closer to Wimbledon history, used forehand winners and serves up the middle to dominate his first-round match.

But at the end of one of the strangest days at Wimbledon in recent memory, which saw seven players retire or withdrawal and third-seeded Maria Sharapova lose to a qualifier, the most fitting end was one of the rarest sights of all: Roger Federer losing
