Five bowl games we wish we could have seen

The 10 Southern California schools participating in CIF state regional championship bowl games this weekend will have their games televised by Time Warner Cable. Friday's Division I regional between Long Beach Poly andNorthern Illinois earned their place. Are Kansas State and Oregon the two best teams? Virginia Tech gets toasted for a putrid season. The Big Ten may go winless.A down year in the Big Ten Conference could cause the University of Minnesota to lose money for sending its football team to a bowl game for the first time since 2009. On Sunday, the Gophers accepted an invitation to the Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas.Yes, it's a 12-school league these days, but it also plays nine conference games (instead of eight plus an extra cupcake). I'd say those factors cancel each other out and make eight bowl bids a significant accomplishment.This year's bowl season has left a lot to be desired. While the championship game is right, there are a lot of teams that got left out of key bowls or were put in poor matchups. There's nothing we can do about it now, but we can lament about the five
